How technology changed our lives

01 September 2020

Technology has created a new world with many endless opportunities. It managed to completely change and reshape our lives. People developed technology to ease our lives. Some of us love it, others hate it, but it’s safe to say that we are all addicted to the Internet and social media.

Many years ago when the Internet was still emerging, people reacted differently. While some people saw business opportunities, others decided to use the Internet for connecting with family members and friends around the world.

However, there are people who see the Internet as a place where they can do something evil, such as cyber bullying, hacking, identity theft, etc. The opportunities for cyber crime are endless. Despite the disadvantages, we have seen many advantages of technology.

In the 90s, there were many variations from computers, to laptops, mobile phones, etc. We used to watch videotapes, but they disappeared when CDs and DVDs were introduced. We also used to have cellphones with buttons, but with the rise of modern technologies, they were switched with smartphones with touchscreens which are easier to use. You see, each year there are many new inventions which are advanced from the previous.

Currently, technology has grown even more and changed our lives forever. For instance, our homes are more protected than before with advanced technological solutions such as smart locks, security cameras, motion sensor lights, etc.

It’s a well known fact that technology made our lives easier - from paying bills, online shopping, money transfer - everything can be done from the comfort of our homes. We became so dependent on it, but it’s impossible to know the amount of technology we use every day.

With technology, it’s easier to do many things such as farming, building cities, traveling, etc. It’s more feasible for economies to grow and for companies to do business. Technological solutions can affect every aspect of human life and solve most problems.

  • Communication

Not only technology changed the communication between people but it also made it better. In the past, people communicated through physical means. With the rise of technology, people are now using electronic communications. From phone and video calls, emails, text messages, there are many communication methods. It’s easier to get in touch with someone nowadays and you don’t even have to leave your home!

However, technology also had a negative impact on the way people communicate. Numerous people would rather communicate through their devices instead of physical socialization and interaction.

  • Education

Technology had a huge impact on education as well. With the power of the Internet, it’s easier for people to get so much information and knowledge. There are many online schools and platforms where you can learn new things and get a degree. Learning is so much more flexible than before. Whether you are at home, in your office, in a cafe, park, it doesn’t matter because you can join a virtual class and get a degree from any location in the world.

  • Payments

Thanks to online banking and electronic payments, people don’t have to walk around with a huge sum of money. The days when people were worried of being robbed are over. Everything can be done through online banking, even electronic transfers are easier. You can send money anywhere you are in the world to another person.

  • Privacy

Despite the fact that we have a right to privacy, it’s hard to keep our information private as technology advances. Smart devices, cameras, and intrusive apps have contributed in compromising our privacy of multitudes.

Fortunately, the evolution of cryptography helped users to maintain their privacy. Cryptography is the process of converting data or information into code in order to prevent unauthorized access. Now users can have encrypted web sessions, and send encrypted messages to others without worrying that their data can be stolen by malicious third parties.

However, if it wasn’t for the evolution of computer networks and computer systems there wouldn’t be any cyber threats and attacks. Lately, there has been a huge rise in hacking attacks, data breaches, and malware, compromising the privacy of millions.

To sum up, with the evolution of technology and its inventions, the world will be very different in the future from the world we live in today. Just imagine what kind of life our future generations will live! They will have driverless cars for sure and numerous other new inventions.

Humans invented robots which are now coming forward to rule the world. As technology and artificial intelligence advance, it won't be a surprise if robots rule this world in the future.
